A blast late Sunday afternoon that could be heard all over Commerce may have rattled windows and nerves, but the explosion apparently caused no damage.
According to a Commerce Police Department report, officers at the police station heard the blast, which sounded like it came from the downtown.
As they searched for the location, a 51-year-old white male flagged them down on Hill Street. He told them that shortly before the blast he’d seen three kids – possibly teenagers — cutting through his yard toward the rear of the vacant former QRM building.
Police found smoldering leaves, and purple pieces of paper at the site. The report contained no indication of what might have caused the explosion.
Another witness said he also saw the three youths, but police were unable to locate them.
