A local man learned the hard way that it’s not a good idea to leave the keys in the ignition of an unlocked vehicle.
A Commerce Police Department incident report said that a 23-year-old white male did just that while shopping with his father at Ingles, Hwy. 334. When he came out of the store, the 1997 Toyota Tacoma was gone.
Police looked at the store’s surveillance of the parking lot. They saw a white male walk up to and around the vehicle, looking into it, at which time he apparently noticed the keys were in the ignition. Then he walked into the store, but came out in about a minute, walked back to the vehicle, got in and departed.
The officer showed the video to the victim, asking if he recognized the thief. He did not.
