The Commerce Fire Department has a new fire chief.
Meeting Monday night, the Commerce City Council ratified at city manager Pete Pyrzenski’s recommendation the July 11 vote of the fire department naming Kevin Dean as chief.
Dean, 52, succeeds Keith Whitfield, who served as fire chief for six years. Whitfield announced his retirement as a fireman after 35 years with the department.
Dean has served 31 years with the department, and on Monday night he expressed appreciation to the mayor and council for their approval of his selection by his fellow firefighters.
“I look forward to serving as chief of the Commerce Fire Department,” he said. “I consider it a privilege and an honor to serve what most people in the city feel is one of the best fire departments in the state of Georgia.”
