The 2013 municipal election process gets started next week. Qualifying for the Nov. 5 general election begins Monday morning and ends Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 28.
Commerce voters will fill three seats on the city council and two on the Commerce Board of Education.
On the council, the Ward 1, 2 and mayor pro tem positions (held by Archie Chaney, Darren Owensby and Keith Burchett respectively) must be filled. The mayor pro tem election will be citywide.
On the board of education, the District 1 and District 2 seats will be held. Arthur Lee Pattman, who holds the District 1 seat, has said he will not seek re-election. The District 2 seat is held by Kyle Moore, who was appointed last week to fill the unexpired term of Mary Seabolt, who resigned earlier after more than 20 years on the board.
