Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum warns that there is a new scam being perpetuated against the public.
Citizens may get a call from someone saying that because they didn't show up for jury duty, they will have to pay a fine of $450 or the FBI will come with an arrest warrant.
“Don't send anyone money or give out your personal information because you get a phone call or an e-mail message,” Mangum said. “No one is coming after you with a warrant for not showing up for jury duty. Report it if you get a call like this. So many good people are scammed out of their money, it makes me angry. It is virtually impossible to track the thieves that rip off our innocent citizens.
“If you ever have any questions about a phone call or letter that seems suspicious please call the office and ask someone about it. We would be glad to do some research for you, especially before you send money.”
