Want to know a great way to make money these days? Invest in a fast-food restaurant chain – McDonald’s, say. Or Starbucks. They’re both (are you ready?) blue-chip stocks. Looking for a way to drop well below the poverty line? Work in a fast-food- chain restaurant and try putting food on the table at home.
Labor Day Weekend struck me as the perfect time to ponder this conundrum — especially since fast-food workers in nearly 60 cities have finally started to strike, demanding wages a person could actually live on. Not only that, but their customers-with-a-conscience are hitting the streets to join them in demonstrating.
