Citing a higher rate of paid 2012 taxes, the office of the Jackson County tax commissioner announced last week that its first tax sale of 2014 has been pushed back two months.
“The number of fi fa’s is down,” explained tax commissioner Don Elrod. “We had 4,000 in 2011. When we issued them for 2012, we only had 2,300. Instead of having nine sales, I can cut the number down and get them away from tax time.”
The first sale of 2014 will be on May 6. The sales are conducted on the steps of the Jackson County Courthouse.
