Commerce High School saw its scores on the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) jump 85 points over 2012, according to results released last week by the Georgia Department of Education.
Commerce High School ranked 80th in the state with a composite score of 1,476. That was up from 1,391 in 2012 and up 131 points from 2011, according to superintendent Joy Tolbert.
“Since annual scores for the SAT normally compare different groups of students, it is always difficult to pinpoint the reasons for any increase/decrease in those scores,” Tolbert wrote in an e-mail to school personnel. “Since preparation for SAT success begins in the lower grades with the initial understanding of mathematical practices and reading/vocabulary skills, all of you can take pride in the success of our most recent SAT scores. Congratulations.”
