The Banks and Jackson County emergency services departments will host a Storm Spotter training class presented by meteorologist Barry Gooden of the National Weather Service on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. at the Jackson County Fire Training Center, 64 Fowler Drive, Jefferson.
Skywarn is a volunteer organization comprising over 230,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help to keep their communities safer by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.
During the Storm Spotter class, training attendees will learn about such topics as the basics of thunderstorm development, basic severe weather safety and how to identify potential severe weather features, the fundamentals of storm structures and how to report to the National Weather Service.
The class is open to anyone who wants to attend, however to ensure adequate training materials citizens are asked to register for the class. Register by e-mailing jacksoncoskywarn@gmail.com or calling 706-654-0923.
