Commerce police officers charged Lourenda Kennedy, 60, 369 Duncan Circle, with theft by shoplifting in connection with an incident at CVS Pharmacy, North Elm Street last week.
The report said a store manager alerted police to a shoplifting in progress and said he’d watched Kennedy put several items in her purse. When the officer asked Kennedy if she had any store property on her person, she replied that she did not. But after she allowed the officer to search her purse, he found three pairs of socks, two T-shirts, three sticks of deodorant and two bottles of lotion with a total value of $71.
The report said Kennedy pointed out that she had not yet left the store. It also indicated that the store has video showing Kennedy putting the merchandise into her purse.
