The Nicholson City Council approved its 2014 budget of $465,260 at its Dec. 9 meeting. The budget is up $31,260 from $434,000 in 2013 – or approximately seven percent.
Revenue increases for FY2014 includes increases in franchise taxes, local option sales tax (LOST), business licenses, motor vehicle tag collection and building rental fees.
Expenses increased for salaries and wages, professional services, insurance, repairs and maintenance, custodial services and machinery and equipment.
No one attended the 1 p.m. public hearing on Dec. 5 or the 6:45 p.m. hearing right before the monthly council meeting on Dec. 9.
