Tree's collapse causes power outage

A large section of an oak tree fell over a Bill Anderson Boulevard power line Wednesday morning, briefly knocking out power to a much of Commerce.

The tree fell at about 10:40 a.m., with a large section of the upper trunk falling over the city of Commerce electric line near Commerce Tire Co.

The section of the tree that fell was hollow, as were upper sections, one of which collapsed up against a house as city workers and the city's tree contractor worked to clear the debris and the Electric Department restored electrical service.

Workers were able to restore power by 11:15.
