Do you have prescription drugs you no longer need or that have expired?
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Maddox Feed and Seed, 1915 Winder Hwy., Jefferson.
The idea is twofold — to prevent those drugs from falling into the wrong hands and being abused and to make sure they are disposed of in a responsible manner. Authorities note that the most common method of disposing of unwanted medications is to flush them in the commode, which creates environmental issues in water tables, streams and even drinking water.
Citizens unable to participate can also drop unwanted medications at the county jail, where a white box is permanently located in the lobby.
“The big white box is accessible to the public any time, no questions asked,” notes Sheriff Janis Mangum.
