Commerce police officers recently responded to a Waterworks Road residence in reference to a dog fight.
When officers arrived, the complainant told them she had been dog sitting a pit bull dog that had gotten out of the house and began attacking the neighbor’s dog, that was tied up with a leash.
The complainant said she began trying to separate the dogs, but the pit bull was “locked” on the smaller dog. Attempts were made to break up the fight including “hitting the pit bull with a shovel, sticks and throwing salt into its eyes.”
When officers arrived, they discovered an injured pit bull dog. The smaller dog was also injured and had been taken inside the owner’s house.
Both dogs were taken to the veterinarian.
