The Commerce Police Department is investigating the curious circumstances of an Athens man’s death.
A white male and white female brought Freddy Sharrell, 28, into the BJC Hospital emergency room Friday, according to the police report on the incident. They said he’d been in a motorcycle accident, apparently on the south side of Athens, and they’d picked him up “on the side of the road.”
Hospital personnel said he was in “serious condition” when he was brought in.
Sharrell died at the hospital. The male witness was gone when police arrived, but the woman told police Sharrell did not want to go to an Athens hospital, and they “rode around” with him. When he became disoriented and unresponsive, they happened to be in Commerce, she said, so they took him to BJC Hospital.
At one point, the report suggested he’d been in a 4-wheeler accident. At another point, the report referenced a motorcycle accident.
