Where’s the school resource officer when you need him?

Commerce Superintendent of Schools James E. “Mac” McCoy had to break up a fight between two women in the stands that may have been the most competitive part of the Commerce-Jefferson football game Friday night.

The incident occurred at halftime as Commerce was in the dressing room talking about how to get back into a game (the Tigers trailed 21-0).

According to an incident report, April Michelle Bower, 19, of 123 Glencrest Drive, Commerce, was standing at the fence on about the 50-yard line watching the halftime show. Tara Evon Lord, 36, of 218 Heritage Hills Drive, Apt. 218, Commerce, was in the stands, trying to see the same performance, the view of which was blocked by Lord.

Bower allegedly demanded that Lord sit down. The two exchanged unpleasantries, after which Lord allegedly punched Bower in the face.

“I had flashbacks from my days as a high school principal,” said McCoy, who rushed in to separate the two.

Both were charged with disorderly conduct.

You actually had some of your information wrong. The view was not blocked by Lord, it was blocked by Bower. Second, Lord was the one insisting that Bower sit down, after yelling several obsene phrases at her. Bower then turned to tell her she would be happy to as long as Lord would ask politely. Lord then junped up and punched Bower in the face. Lord also took hits at several of the people trying to break up the fight. Also, if the officer that was seeing to the incident has given other a chance to speak he would have known that Lord's husband has grabbed another young girl by the throat and had thrown her against the fence. But obviously the Jackson County Police Department cared nothing more than about filling their quota on arrests.

You also forgot to mentioned how Lord grabbed Bower's hair and dragged her 3 or 4 feet on the ground by her hair!

This "quota on arrests" statement is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. When the announcer has to come over the loudspeaker and make a request for law enforcement to break up a fight, I really don't think the cops are too concerned about quotas at that point. Anyway, based on what I saw, more people than Lord were trying to get Bower to quit blocking the view. Lord also didn't punch Bower until Bower called her an "Old B!@#$" in front of everyone. That's not exactly what I would consider to be making a request to be asked politely.

Yeah, it's Commerce, what did you expect? Did you see any fight on the Jefferson side? Don't think so.

You're right. There were no fights on the Jefferson side. The fighters in Jefferson are the police force and crazy restaurant owners that spray paint obsenities on their own building. We don't let those people come to Commerce.

even if Bower did call Lord an old B!#@$ in front of everyone, that doesn't give you the right to assault a person! but i saw what happend!
Lord was being incredibly rude to bower FIRST!

You're right. It's not justified to hit someone over this. I was just pointing out the "ask politely" comment from the first post was totally fictitious.

You should check your information before making such a bold and idiotic comment. First of all did you volunteer to give the officer investigating the fight your statement or contact information, so you could be subpoenaed for the trial. I would guess not. You probably didn't even speak to the officer or you would have known that it was the Commerce Police Department and not as you stated "Jackson County Police" By the way where is that located? As far as I know, there is no Jackson County Police, but there is however a Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Jackson County Sheriff's Department has nothing to do with Commerce City School football games and are not involved or affiliated in any way. The officers working the football games are working extra duty and are paid by the city. So, they also would not be looking for as you stated "quotas". Were do you people come from? You watch way too much CSI. That's TV and just in case you didn't know, everything on it isn't real. If it were we would all be rich.

Why were we not informed about the moonshine and weapons being sold on the streets?Is it not about equivalent to drugs?We certainly are informed if someone is shot or DUI,as a result.Are you discriminating?

We did not learn about the indictments until Wednesday morning, Sept. 3. The Sept. 3 edition of The Commerce News was completed early on the evening of Sept. 2 for printing first thing on Wednesday, Sept. 3. As for CommerceNewsTODAY.com, we never post all arrests or all of our stories on the Web. Rather, we refer readers to the print edition.

Bower didn't call her anything obscene until she had called her a "f-ing b#$%*" sevceral times. Also, if Mrs. Lord hadn't started with the rude comments in the first place there would have been no reason for anyone to announce anything. ALso, if you had addaquately seen everything you would know that the fight had already been over when they annouced it over the lond speaker. And again, Bower wasn't the only one assualted by Mrs. Lord or memebers of her family (who just happen to be the other people shouting obscene phrases at Ms. Bower). And again, if you had accurately seen the fight you would have also known that her husband had assualted that girl. If you would like to make a statement maybe you should be sure your facts are correct. And also it was stated that there was an officer that was in the stands watching the entire thing. If he had seen that it was progressing into a fight shouldn't he would have done something to prevent it. So, yes, the quota statement is a fair statement.

after reading the article and reading what all the comments say, it looks to me that Mrs. Lord has a anger management problem!
also, wether Bower called Lord a B**** before or after Lord cussed at her, still gives no reason for lord to hit someone!
she should be charged with assualt!

My thoughts, after reading the article and the comments of others who witnessed the incident, maybe Lord should at least have to take anger management classes. Bower was wrong to call her a b**** but Lord, being an adult, should have just let it go. From my understanding Lord had already called Bower a b**** several times before Bower replied calling her one. Both women were wrong to do what they did. Bower should have ignored Lord's comments, and Lord should have just said she couldn't see instead of yelling at Bower. I'm not saying either of these women were right, because they weren't. But, as many others have said, you can't hit someone just because they say something you don't like. That does not justify what Lord did. And Bower calling Lord a b**** right back was also an ignorant move. Both wmen made a mistake, now they have to live with the reprecussions of their mistakes.

I think it's totally ridiculous.. the entire ordeal.

It's a football game, and it was a pretty crappy one
if you ask me. The halftime show they were watching
could hardly be heard above the roar of ALL the people
there! And besides, the police report was totally
messed up, that or somewhere between the game of
"telephone" of this incident, the facts got screwed up.

I think that people should just get over it.
Seriously, just get over it.
What Lord did was NOT right, but if Bower WAS blocking
the view, I'd have wanted her to move too.. but
I sure wouldn't have punched her.
Immature woman thinking she's at a AC/DC concert
or something???!
