Infant dies Tuesday after being left in car

The child had reportedly been left in the car for around three hours and was unresponsive when deputies and EMTs arrived about 5 p.m.

According to Jackson County Sheriff’s Office investigator Maj. David Cochran, Wendy Osborne had returned home around 2 p.m. Tuesday and taken two 3-year-old children into the house. Osborne subsequently fell asleep, accidentally leaving the 9-month-old in the vehicle.

Two teenage children later arrived home from school. Around 5 p.m., one of the teens asked where the baby was, according to Cochran. It was then that Osborne realized she had left the female baby in the minivan. She found the baby unresponsive and called 911, according to Cochran.

The child was in foster care at the Hwy. 334 home at the time of the incident. No charges have been filed in the death, but authorities said they are continuing to investigate circumstances surrounding the case.
