The Jackson County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to have interim county manager Leonard Myers investigate the alleged forced resignation of a county department head in March.

Commissioner Tom Crow made the motion after reading a prepared letter about questionable actions by former county manager Darrell Hampton.

Crow stated: “It appears that because of my efforts to gather information one of our department heads was forced to resign. The instruction (from Hampton) to have resignation tendered by March of 2011 was given during fall of 2010 after this department head had answered questions from me.” [Full Story »] 

The Nicholson City Council unanimously approved its 2011 proposed general fund budget totaling $410,000 following a public hearing Thursday night.

The 2011 budget is up slightly from the $405,000 general fund budget for 2010. [Full Story »] 

The main issue at the city of Nicholson budget meeting Tuesday, Oct. 26, was $20,000 in the proposed 2011 budget allocated to the library for books.

A public hearing on the budget will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at the beginning of the monthly work session meeting. The city council will vote on the budget at the Dec. 6 council meeting. [Full Story »]

Nicholson leaders plan the town’s biggest July 4 celebration Saturday. Fireworks, food and entertainment are set for 3 p.m. at the amphitheater in Nicholson.

“This is going to be our biggest festival July Fourth event so far,” said Mayor Ronnie Maxwell.
