Tracking dogs were deployed at about 5 p.m. Wednesday in an effort to capture a juvenile who escaped police custody near the intersection of Hwy. 59 and U.S. 441.
A 55-year-old Commerce man will be charged with murder, aggravated assault and aggravated assault on a police officer after he allegedly shot and killed his 6-year-old grandson and wounded his wife as a domestic incident turned deadly early Sunday afternoon.
Rainy weather has forced the Commerce Recreation Department to cancel the opening ceremonies planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial Field for its softball and baseball programs.
But teams will still gather to have their photos made, says Lonnie Dickerson, recreation director.
"We've just moved them inside," he noted.
The ceremony will not be rescheduled.
"We just move right into the baseball season," Dickerson said.
