Owners of land near potential reservoirs get notice

Owners of property being considered for a new county reservoir got the news last week.

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners and the county water and sewerage authority mailed letters to owners of land around three potential reservoirs. The documents are the first step toward getting on the land to ascertain the feasibility of building a drinking water reservoir.

Two hundred ninety-four thousand dollars is a lot of money, particularly when it isn’t budgeted, but the decision of the Jackson County Industrial Development Authority, Jackson County Water and Sewerage Authority and Jackson County Board of Commissioners to spend that sum is well warranted.

The Banks County Sheriff’s Office charged five people with criminal trespass after they allegedly broke into the raw water pump station at the city reservoir Monday.
